Dear Colleagues,
On behalf of Organizing Committee, it is with great pleasure that I invite the entire scientific community working with propolis and propolis extract, from all fields of knowledge, as well as all healthcare professionals who work with bee products and those interested in this area, to participate in the 4th International Propolis Congress, which will be held in Ribeirão Preto, São Paulo, Brazil.

Welcome to the Fourth International Propolis Conference – Brazil – 2025. This will be chance to meet and interact with the numerous Brazilian researchers who have helped develop propolis products and investigated their benefits for health. Brazil has gone from home-made alcohol extracts sold informally by beekeepers in the 1970s and early 1980s to professional propolis products manufactured by hundreds of companies and found in every pharmacy countrywide and exported to many other countries.

Dear Friends and Colleagues
It is with real pleasure that I welcome you to the 4th International Propolis Congress in Ribeirão Preto, São Paulo, Brazil which has the stimulating and challenging theme  PROPOLIS  – IMMUNITY: COMMUNITY: SUSTAINABILITY.
It is now over 30 years since I personally became fascinated by the extraordinary substance that is propolis, a fascination which has, over the years, led to a still deepening fascination and reverence for the honeybee in general.

Dear Colleagues,

On behalf of Organizing Committee, it is with great pleasure that I invite the entire scientific community working with propolis and propolis extract from all fields of knowledge, as well as all healthcare professionals who work with bee products and those interested in this area, to participate in the 4th International Propolis Congress, which will be held in Ribeirão Preto, São Paulo, Brazil.

The International Propolis Congress is an initiative of the International Propolis Research Group, which brings together friends and leading experts in the field, as well as various stakeholders involved in this chain. This is the 4th edition of the Congress in its in-person format. The event covers research on propolis and propolis extract for human, animal, and plant health, including studies on safety and efficacy, the isolation and characterization of new compounds, the development of methods for quality control and authenticity, and new processes and products for health across various disciplines.

During this event, you will have the opportunity to strengthen ties with leading international researchers in propolis, laboratory and company technicians and analysts, healthcare professionals, regulatory and standardization agents, entrepreneurs, beekeepers, students, and many others. The Congress will offer new knowledge, an exchange of scientific and regulatory experiences, expanded networking for partnerships and new business opportunities, and the chance to make new friends.

Ribeirão Preto is a city that has become a hub for research, innovation, and technology in bees, bee products, and pollination services. It is a city focused on agribusiness, an important center for health and medical research in the interior of São Paulo state, a city known for its many craft breweries, and a welcoming city full of life and joy.

In 2025, the Congress aims to present propolis extract to the entire community as a sustainable tool for promoting immunity and health, along with all the discoveries and innovations that support this purpose.

On behalf of the entire Organizing Committee and as the Brazilian representative on the board of the IPRG, I warmly welcome you, wishing you a wonderful stay in Brazil and a very fruitful Congress. Come and share your experiences with us and enrich your knowledge at this fabulous upcoming event! We thank you in advance for your valuable contribution and participation.

Besides honey bee propolis, beekeepers also produce and sell stingless bee propolis from some of the hundreds of social stingless bee species native to Brazil. You will have a chance to see colonies of these unique bees and also visit one of the pioneering propolis companies, which is located in Ribeirao Preto, which helped initiate the professionalization of bee product production in Brazil. Among the more than 14 types of propolis produced in Brazil, Brazilian green propolis and red propolis are of special interest for their health properties. This will be a unique opportunity to learn from propolis experts from around the world. Together, by sharing knowledge and increasing interactions with research groups from around the world, we can help promote the health benefits of propolis.

Modern science has begun to rediscover much of what the Ancients took for granted; that the honeybee occupies a critical and crucial role in relation to the health of both nature and of human beings.
In the 20th Century, the Austrian philosopher and scientist Rudolf Steiner identified the role and  meaning of the honeybee dramatically and succinctly when he said : “by way of the beehive, the entire cosmos can find its way into human beings and help to make them sound in mind and body“.
Our theme – Immunity: Community: Sustainability  – could not be more relevant.  As we come to understand more about the intricate complexity of the human immune system, so we are recognising the limitations of traditional  ANTI – medicine and at the same time the value of PRO – medicines; medicines which  provide wide-spectrum support for our now compromised human immune defence mechanisms.
The International Propolis Research Group has, since its inception, provided a real focus for propolis research worldwide, stimulating insights that offer real help  in combatting specific and global health problems, like antibiotic resistance – even offering a new paradigm for health itself.
We owe a real debt of gratitude to our  Eastern European colleagues for keeping faith with propolis and for developing a modern scientific foundation for it  in the first half of the 20th Century  .  However, it is the Brazilians who have really set research pace  in more recent times.
Following our successful congresses in Sofia, Bulgaria and then in Istanbul, Turkey it is entirely appropriate  that in 2025 we come to Brazil,  where so much outstanding work, including clinical studies, has been done.
I can only add my encouragement, wherever you live and work, to come and share with us our scientific journey into this most remarkable and promising natural medicine and at the same time to share with us the vibrant hospitality of our Brazilian hosts and friends.
With warm regards
James Fearnley
